Philosophy Apposition Paper free essay sample
A humanââ¬â¢s mind should be filled with knowledge and we acquire knowledge through our sensory experiences. Babies are born with an empty mind. Meaning, they have no knowledge at all. However, their tiny brains also desire for knowledge. They desire to know the feeling of fire, ice, etc. The first time that a baby sees a fire, the tendency is that he will come closer to it and touch it. Once he felt that it is hot, the baby will ideally cry because he got hurt. The next time you make him see a fire, the tendency is that he will get frighten right away. Why? Because he already knows that itââ¬â¢s hot! And he acquired the knowledge through his sense of touch, his sensory experience. Empiricist John Locke has also influence my belief in Human nature: that man acquire knowledge through his sensory experiences. I therefore strengthening the saying: ââ¬Ëto see is to believe. Society holds a big responsibility in molding oneââ¬â¢s outlook on what is good and wrong. To make it possible for a man to acquire a moral perfection, he should be a member of a perfectly moral society. My belief about ethics and morality falls to the world of Confucianism. A manââ¬â¢s behavior is easily influenced by the factors that exist in his environment. When there is anger and hate around him, he will easily acquire these things and it will unintentionally be a part of his personality, making man a naively doer of bad vibes. Therefore, if the society follows all kinds of good practices and moral perfection, its countrymen will absolutely acquire an everlasting moral perfection. In order to have a perfectly moral society, each man must exercise moral perfection themselves. Moral perfection is contagious. Once exercised by someone, it will diffuse rapidly and influence all other man. Influencing each other wonââ¬â¢t be so hard for it is a manââ¬â¢s nature to acquire the behavior of the people that surrounds him in his everyday life. All man by nature know whatââ¬â¢s good and will do whatââ¬â¢s good unless acted by some external force that will force him to do wrong things. Moral perfection then is acquired in a perfectly moral society thatââ¬â¢s composed of citizens exercising moral perfection. Society and Government Based on my own experience as a Student Leader, The Society should be divided into 3 distinct classes: Rulers, Associates and the people. It must be surrounded by rules and punishments proposed by the rulers and empowered by the associates. Individuals who think critically, analytically, systematically and value ethical values at all times are the only ones that can be rulers. In order to be classified as an official ruler, one must also acquire the 2 chief characteristics of a ruler: a good leader and a good follower. Associates are to assist the rulers in handling the society. They should be good in Math and in critical and analytical thinking as well. In order to be classified as an official associate, one must also acquire the 2 chief characteristics of an associate: a good follower and a (ENGLISH OF MASIGASIG HERE). The rulers are the ones to rule the society; associates are to assist the rulers; people are to follow the rules given by the rulers. These 3 distinct classes of the society should help each other in promoting the common good and molding a perfectly moral society. Freedom and Choice The people of the society should be given the freedom to choose and decide for their own good. However, they are not allowed to disobey rules given by the government. Acts opposing and detrimental to the government should be strictly prohibited. In return of disobedience, a punishment should be given to those who will break the rules. Freedom is fully achieved when you can do whatever you want and follow whatever your heart truly says. Freedom is to be free from all restrictions. However, I only consider acceptable restrictions but not restrictions that are harmful to the environment, animals, and plants and to mankind. It is to take full control of your life and be mature and responsible enough to face all the consequences of your decisions. In my own viewpoint, Freedom of choice is the power to choose which path you should take or which decision you should make. Attaining freedom is the same as acquiring power to control your life. Even if you know that you will be punished once you do bad things, itââ¬â¢s still your choice whether you will do bad things or not. No one can tell whether your choice is good or bad simply because itââ¬â¢s your own decision! Other people will only give you advices. Itââ¬â¢s still your choice whether you should follow their advices or not. After all, itââ¬â¢s your life. No one holds big responsibility to it other than you. In life, your greatest enemy is non-other than yourself. God and Afterlife God is the immovable ruler of all mankind. He has all the power to decide and control every manââ¬â¢s life for he is the creator of all possessions in the world. God is the chief purpose of a manââ¬â¢s life. He is our creator and our lives should be willingly offered to him. The life of a man follows a linear path. Thereââ¬â¢s a starting and ending point. We are born, sooner or later, we will die. Furthermore, the purgatory of soul afterlife is divided into three parts: Heaven, Hell and oblivion. Heaven is where the good souls who practiced excellent moral perfection during their living are being brought. Hell is where the bad souls who exercised hatred and rebellion during their living are being brought. Oblivion is where the souls who lacked prayers from their families, relatives or friends are being brought. My mom generally gave me this idea. The saying, ââ¬Ëto see is to believeââ¬â¢ questions the existence of God. I myself believe that quote. However, God really exist. A person who questions the existence of God doesnââ¬â¢t only recognize him thatââ¬â¢s why they donââ¬â¢t feel his existence. Albert Einstein says it all; Cold doesnââ¬â¢t exist. Itââ¬â¢s just the absence of heat. Darkness doesnââ¬â¢t exist. Itââ¬â¢s just the absence of light. Evil doesnââ¬â¢t exist. Itââ¬â¢s the result of the absence of Godââ¬â¢s presence in the hearts of man. My last personal message Creating this paper had never been a hard work for me. Probably because I already have the insights, ideas and own perspective about things that are discussed in this paper even before our professor announced that we have to make an apposition paper. In addition to that, I also have the willingness to share and tell stories of my own to other people not only to inspire them but also share my knowledge to everyone. Within me lies this incredible likeness for Philosophy. Well, actually not just likeness but love for Philosophy. I love learning! And I never get tired of it. In my own perspective, Philosophy is a center of excellent learning about things in the past and in the future. It doesnââ¬â¢t only give you a clear understanding of the past but also provides a strong idealistic argument regarding the future. It opens a wide variety of knowledge to me and I definitely benefit from it by applying some of it to my life. Philosophy had influenced me a lot, from the idea and logic that it shows down to the arguments of each of the philosopher present in the world of Philosophy. There are claims that Iââ¬â¢m favored to and there are also ones that Iââ¬â¢m opposed to. One thing remains; Philosophy has opened a new world to me that is filled with diverse knowledge, insights and concepts about all the possessions in the world. Contradicting Philosophy ââ¬ËQuit while youââ¬â¢re ahead! ââ¬â¢ Most of us have this attitude of quitting right away whenever we are experiencing or have already experienced the feeling of winning, pleasure or recognition. The main and the most common of all reason behind this thought is that people donââ¬â¢t want to lose what they have already got thatââ¬â¢s why they quit right away to avoid the embarrassment or disappointment of other people that they can possibly get when they fail or lose the title that they have for a certain period of time. I see this thought as a bad practice of the Filipinos. It is because I believe that quitters never win and winners never quit. If youââ¬â¢re currently experiencing pleasure or happiness and you wanted to hold on that pleasure forever, then you should not quit. A real winner doesnââ¬â¢t know how to quit for he himself should insist to continue his journey no matter what happen. Even if it might result to the loss of the title or whatever that he is holding on to, even if it might be the cause of humiliation or discernment of other people, a winner will always be a winner. The fact that he did not give up and decided to face all the problems and consequences alone is indeed an ultimate act of winner. Not all of us can sacrifice their reputation just for a title or happiness; only real winners can actually do that. It is because of the reason that real winners donââ¬â¢t consider quitting an option to maintain the title, they donââ¬â¢t consider it an option just to prolong the happiness or pleasure that theyââ¬â¢re experiencing but they consider it as an act of cheaters instead. Real winners are always ready to lose but they always win; cheaters are always ready to win but they never win. It is because a cheater lacks the dedication and courage to face danger or pain unlike a real winner whoââ¬â¢s always ready to accept failure or rejection. A real winner is identified not through what he has or what have done but through his habits, actions and viewpoints against excellence. A real winner doesnââ¬â¢t aim for success but aim for excellence because right after achieving excellence, he knows that everything else will follow. Rejections and disappointments are part of every winnerââ¬â¢s story. Itââ¬â¢s actually what makes them a real winner like that of the children superhero books. Superheroes are being attacked and insult by the antagonist first before having the title of ââ¬Ësuperheroââ¬â¢ or the ââ¬Ëhero of the landââ¬â¢. The same thing happens with the lead characters of a movie or a show. Lead characters are often surrounded with mean people, deteriorating the reputation or the life of the lead actor, stealing the happiness and pleasure felt by the lead actor. However, at the end of the movie, the lead actor still stands firmly in the spotlight. Proudly showing everyone who tried to pulled him down that he is a deserving lead actor, a real and deserving winner. Insight about this course Philosophy has been my favorite subject the moment our very prim and proper professor, Ms. Kristyn Silva, let us grasp a glimpse on the mystical world of Philosophy. At first, I was in doubt, unsure of the objective of the said course. But as the gates that will lead us to world of Philosophy gradually opens, I started putting all the pieces of thought that I have that time together and I came to a very simple conclusion of what is really Philosophy all about. Philosophy is unknowingly applied and executed by all of us in our daily lives; when you argue about the reality of something, thatââ¬â¢s philosophy; when you doubt the existence of something/someone, thatââ¬â¢s philosophy; when you question about the validity of something, thatââ¬â¢s also philosophy. Philosophy is naively performed by all mankind. Most of us are not aware that we are already applying and practicing philosophy in our daily lives just by simple questioning, doubting and argumentation about things. Philosophy revolves in two basic dimensions: State your own viewpoints and beliefs; defend and make it more idealistic and believable than the other philosopherââ¬â¢s claim. Philosophy has indeed opened a wide variety of diverse knowledge to me and it made realize that knowledge is everywhere! You just need to have the nerve to discover and doubt things in order for you to gain knowledge. Doubt even the obvious, possible or impossible. Doubt everything that surrounds you and your mind will prosper in knowledge and awareness. This idea primarily came from the well-known rationalist, Rene Descartes, who proposed the Radical doubt theory. The main idea of Radical doubt theory is to doubt even the obvious because according to Rene, our minds can also be fooled. Through doubting, we can discover the undiscovered. Certain religions and philosophers had also made some of my perspective and beliefs in life altered, particularly Confucianism, Aristotle, Plato, John Locke and Immanuel Kant. Confucianism best represents my viewpoint about this paper ââ¬â especially Ethics and Morality. Confucianism says, ââ¬ËIn order to have moral perfection, one must live in a perfectly moral society. ââ¬â¢ For me, I value Ethics a lot. To be prim and proper all the time is a must. Moral perfection is urgently needed in the society because a lot of people who doesnââ¬â¢t know the value of respect nowadays seem to be the pests in the society. Unfortunately, their attitudes are contagious. They are influencing other people to do bad things. For this to be prevented from happening, moral perfection should be practiced in the society. Philosophy is a world of concepts, ideas, arguments and doctrines of different religions and philosophers. Each of them is defending their own ideas and claims, however, examining just one thing: reality. What is it to be real? All of them are studying to find out what is real. Philosophersââ¬â¢ propose different claims, contradicting each other. By chance, in the world of philosophy, there is no right or a wrong thought for itââ¬â¢s your own ideas. Thatââ¬â¢s one thing that I love the most about Philosophy; thereââ¬â¢s no right or wrong answers. All of your answers are valid at some point. The more philosophersââ¬â¢ arise, the more argumentations are made. The more argumentations are made, the more contradicting the philosophy is. Philosophy had been my guide in living a worthy life since it was introduced to us. Whenever I feel the need for advices, philosophy is there. Whenever I feel like discovering the causes of things, philosophy is also there. As time goes by and weââ¬â¢re almost at the brink of the world of Philosophy, I came up to the conclusion that Philosophy is a never ending process. It will exist and exist whatever happens. It basically canââ¬â¢t be avoided and prevented from occurring. Philosophy will continue to exist in this mystical world until the end of time.
